“There is no such thing as accident; it is fate misnamed.” -Napoleon Bonaparte
That is how my educational technology journey began - as an accident. I had been a middle school math teacher for a few years and just recently celebrated the birth of my first child. I started thinking about what I wanted to be doing in 30 years. Did I want to stay in K-12, move into higher education, go into the corporate education field, or do something totally different like engineering or athletic coaching? It was at this point my wife said to me, “You like technology. Maybe you can do something with technology and education.”
Soon after, I went to the computer to Google “online tech ed masters,” but in doing so I accidentally (or was it fate) wrote instead, “online ed tech masters.” I remember from high school “tech ed” classes dealt with using machines and woodworking and that was what I expected to find with my Google search. But what I found instead led me on a three month investigation of this field called Educational Technology, eventually leading me to San Diego State University’s EDTEC Masters Program. This journey through the EDTEC program would last nearly five years and concludes here with this ePortfolio. A journey that has included the birth of two more children, two job changes, and three moving vans. A journey that has opened my imagination to the endless possibilities available in this ever growing and changing field. Possibilities I am excited to explore.
This ePortfolio highlights my experiences and growth during my journey through the EDTEC program at SDSU.
